#Look Beyond Borders is an experimental film in which people of various social classes, professions and interests took part. Some of the participants were Europeans, including Poles, Italians, Germans and Belgians-others were refugees who had been in Europe no longer than a few months. Each participant was to look into another person’s eyes for 4 minutes. As a result of this eye contact, strong emotions could be seen on their faces. Although the experiment lasted only two days, and was carried out in Berlin near Checkpoint Charlie, it was talked about all over the world. The most influential news media outlets which are seen and read by hundreds of millions of people around the world, such as CNN, Huffington Post, India Today and many others published articles about the project. The idea of this experiment and film originated in Poland, and was an initiative of Amnesty International Poland. The International Secretariat in London, as well as other British sections of this organization took part in this initiative. The film was simultanously presented on the Internet in many different countries, including Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic and Hungary. The “IWelcome – Live” experiment is a continuation of the “LookBeyondBorders” project.
